It’s always nice to see celebrity friendships flourish in such a competitive industry. That’s why it was so refreshing to see the camaraderie between musicians John Legend and Kanye West over the years. The duo seems to be a thing of the past now, though.
Friendship Status
To get you up to speed, Legend and West’s years-long friendship took a hit due to a rift fuelled by their differing political beliefs.
Now, the 41-year-old ‘All of Me’ singer is clarifying the real current status of his relationship with the 42-year-old rapper.
Speaking with The Sunday Times, Legend shared that he doesn’t think that he and West have become ‘fewer friends’ because of their differences. It’s just that they’re currently busy doing their own thing.
After all, it’s hard to keep tight because of the physical distance between them, with Legend being in Los Angeles and West residing in Wyoming. There’s also the fact that both of them now have their own families.
These things considered, growing apart seemed just to be a part of the natural cycle of life, Legend said.
Cause of the Rift
Although the two of them have been friends for a long time, Legend admitted that they never really talked about politics. Still, they butt heads when West came out to support President Donald Trump.
The ‘Famous’ rapper ended up sharing his private conversation with Legend on Twitter. The screenshots showed Legend telling his friend about the impact that his endorsement of Trump has on his fans, given that he is an influential figure.
West responded, telling Legend that he appreciated him sharing his thoughts. However, he believed that Legend’s argument demonstrates a fear-based tactic to manipulate his beliefs.
Agree to Disagree
Despite the clash, the two musicians seemed to put their differences aside as West attended the baby shower of Legend’s wife Chrissy Teigen just days later. The rapper even posted a selfie with Legend and captioned it with: ‘We got love. Agree to disagree’.
West and Legend seem to have found common ground again these days, though, as both of them have shown support for the Black Lives Matter movement. West was recently spotted in a protest in his hometown in Chicago, while Legend has donated to various organizations fighting for the cause.
