A lot of work and money goes into making good films. And sometimes the stress of the job leads arguments to escalate to a point where even directors and their actors to butt heads on set.
Here are some of the most notorious director vs. actor on set feuds you probably never knew happened.
Val Kilmer & Joel Schumacher
Action star Val Kilmer is known to have clashed with quite a few directors in the many decades he’s been in show business. But his most infamous feud happened on the set of ‘Batman Forever’ with director Joel Schumacher.
Schumacher, who described Kilmer as ‘rude and inappropriate’, once revealed to Entertainment Weekly that he and the actor ended up having ‘a physical pushing match’ while shooting the film.
Kilmer was eventually replaced by George Clooney.
Faye Dunaway & Roman Polanski
Actress Faye Dunaway and actor Roman Polanski are without a doubt among the most respected figures in their own fields. Unfortunately, their talents clashed while they were shooting the acclaimed 1975 film ‘Chinatown’.
The highlight of their conflict is when a reportedly upset Polanski yanked out a stray piece of hair straight out of the actress’s head in the middle of filming. Another crazy rumor is that the controversial director even refused to let his star use the bathroom and that led Dunaway to allegedly throw a cup of her own urine at him.
Megan Fox & Michael Bay
Among the more recent director-actor feuds was the one between Megan Fox and Michael Bay.
The animosity of the two seemingly began during the production of ‘Transformers’ in 2007. Since then, both Fox and Bay have openly slammed each other in interviews with the actress calling the director Hitler and a tyrant.
Her comments cost her the lead role in the film franchise. According to some, she was even blacklisted from Hollywood.
Fortunately, the two of them have since let bygones be bygones. They worked with each other once again in the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ directed by Bay in 2014.
Bill Murray & Harold Ramis
Billy Murray and Harold Ramis were longtime friends already before they had a friendship-ending feud while shooting the comedy classic ‘Groundhog Day’.
As Ramis’ daughter shared, Murray exhibited erratic behavior while on set and even threw a couple of temper tantrums. Reaching his tipping point, Ramis ended up shoving his star against a wall.
Sadly their dispute resulted in Murray shutting out his old friend from his life for two decades.
